Wow...I can't believe I'm typing this.
On Saturday, December 12th, in the afternoon,...we were on our way to the Bass Pro shop with the kids so that we could have pics taken with Santa Clause. Brooke (my sister), her husband and their 2 year old daughter, Hailey were supposed to meet us there. The kids had been giving me a really hard time earlier that morning and I wasn't in the best of moods. Once we got into Rollie's truck, I opened my new book and started reading. It was really good b/c I didn't realize that we'd driven right past the exit for the Bass Pro shop and that we were already almost up to the temple. When I realized where we were, my heart jumped up into my throat and I felt like I had to throw up. First I thought that maybe we were stopping by the Distribution center b/c Rollie's 'Holy' undies were indeed getting Holey. When we stopped and I saw that he had his scriptures in hand and asked for me and the girls to get out of the truck and take a walk with him....I knew it was going to happen. I seriously felt like I was going to throw up, but I wanted to jump up and down all at the same time. Bailey kept asking, "Where are we...Why are we here?" She wouldn't settle for a "Just wait and see" type answer, so she kept asking over and over until we got to the side of the San antonio Temple and Rowland asked us to sit down on one of the benches. We did and he paused to figure out how he wanted to do this. It was so cute. He opened his scriptures and as he was doing this, he told me that he wasn't a perfect man, but that he always tried to live his life according to the following scriptures.
Alma 48:11-13, 17
11 And Moroni was a strong and a mighty man; he was a man of a perfect understanding; yea, a man that did not delight in bloodshed; a man whose soul did joy in the liberty and the freedom of his country, and his brethren from bondage and slavery;
12 Yea, a man whose heart did swell with thanksgiving to his God, for the many privileges and blessings which he bestowed upon his people; a man who did labor exceedingly for the welfare and safety of his people.
13 Yea, and he was a man who was firm in the faith of Christ, and he had sworn with an oath to defend his people, his rights, and his country, and his religion, even to the loss of his blood.
17 Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men.
After her read that, he said, "I promise to always love you, and you, and you, (b/c the girls were right there with us). It was so special. He then got down on his knee and asked me to please marry him. Of course I said yes. The girls were SOOOO happy. They were so incredibly happy that they were included on the proposal...even though they had no idea it was happening on this day. (They also got to go to the jewelers with Rollie to pick up my ring...and they loved having a 'surprise' secret together. )
Bailey said, "Mom, maybe one day my boyfriend will bring me to the temple and ask me to marry him and give me a pretty ring too. " I told her having her future boyfriend do that would make Mommy very happy.
We're thinking June for the wedding date...so check back often for updates I guess. Please make sure I have everyone's up to date addresses.
We did make it to the Bass Pro Shop and took the kids to Sea World to see Shamu that night, so it was a pretty eventful day. That night we called everyone, sent mass text messages and updated Facebook and Myspace pages. We went over to my folks house to talk with them and took a few pictures. There will be 'family' pictures taken this weekend so watch for those.
